    All ships in insurrection are based on a modular model, allowing for many combinations of the various ship parts to produce a multitude of designs.  The player ships is fully modular in this respect, allowing the player to adjust everything to their own play style.  If you want a Battlestar Galactica style ship carrier with big guns, or even a pure missile boat, then you are free to do what you want.
